From a humble beginning in 1958, over a period of 50 years, Polypak Secco Limited has transformed into a leading plastic-based packaging solutions provider, catering to virtually any packaging need in the market.
The roots of Polypak Secco Limited can be traced to Secco Brushes Corporation, which was established in Wellawatta on 1st October 1958. The first products, manufactured were ‘Tek’ toothbrushes due to a licence agreement awarded by “Johnson and Johnson of U.K.
Secco Brushes Corporation was the brainchild of Mr. Sohli Captain. He bought two machines, hired 25 employees and commenced his business at Mayura place. Polypak Industries decided to manufacture Polythene films and was formed as a partnership in 1962. The factory for Polypak Industries was setup in Wellawatta near Secco Brushes Corporation.
However, premises in Mayura Place could not accommodate the growth of two companies. As a result, the company was relocated to Ethul Kotte in 1971. Polypak industries later obtained licence for blow mould products. As the two companies were prospering rapidly, the blow and injection moulding factories were shifted to Nawala while films were produced at Ethul Kotte.
Rapid growth of Secco Brushes and Polypak industries were visible. In 1988 the two partnerships amalgamated; created a limited liability company and renamed as Polypak Secco Limited. A turn towards sustainability was taken in late 90’s by setting up the first recycling plant at Ratmalana with the purchase of a pelletizer. All the defected products were sent to this plant and pelletized to reduce the wastage and the damage caused to the environment.
The company was growing day by day. Due to rapid expansion, the manufacturing was moved to a larger factory at Kaduwela in the year 2000. The blow moulding, injection moulding and film were produced at one factory house. The recycling plant was also brought into Kaduwela. Modern machinery was purchased to support the effectiveness and efficiency of the business. As a part of ongoing commitment to provide plastic packages with highest quality ISO 9001 and BRC certification was obtained.
Today, Polypak Secco has grown to be a group of companies with a turnover exceeding three billion, employing 700 workers with a factory situated in a land extending to 6 acre.
